A bit of follow-up: the best way to find a lost notebook is to start a new one.
-
Do you ever misplace a notebook? One that’s actively used and about halfway filled? It’s been about two weeks now …

It’s a fresh pot of coffee type of afternoon. ☕️

My #F1 livery rankings
- Ferrari - The lines got me. Yes, I would like fries with that shake!
- Mercedes - Classic done right.
- Aston Martin - Still fire, but a downgrade from last year.
- McLaren - One of these years they will top this list. Getting closer.
- Alpine - Blue and pink all the things. Ok, it’s a lot of black too, but I like it.
- Red Bull - Not lower only because I think they have the best color combination on the grid.
- Stake - I love seeing something different, but I worry this will look much worse on track than in studio.
- Haas - Pretty clean from a pretty boring team.
- Williams - This one hurts, as I’ve loved what they have done the past few years. I think it’s more of the disjointed sponsor styles and layouts than anything.
- Visa Cash App RB - My fault for having high expectations I guess. They got the colors right, but the white sections - especially in the front - attract the wrong kind of visual attention.
Overall, I think it was a good livery launch season. The top 4 could be in any order, and the next 4 could be shaken up the same way. Here’s hoping the VCARB will see some cool special liveries throughout the campaign.

Finished reading: See a Little Light by Bob Mould 📚

Heard two thoughts on album sequencing in the past week that I am still thinking about:
Billy Woods likes the first two songs and the last two songs of the album to be strong.
Bob Mould always puts the lead single third.

Magnapop “Magnapop”
I was hit with all of the college-age feels when I read a mention of Magnapop in Bob Mould’s autobiography. They were one of my local Atlanta favorites in the early 90’s, and I had completely forgotten about them over the last couple of decades. Replayed “Merry” many times last week.

boygenius “the record”
This album has been in my queue for months, but only recently - and after repeated year-end accolades - did I give it a first listen. I’m going to need more listens, because nothing stopped me in my tracks on the first spin.
That’s usually a sign for me. A pause, a replay, a what did they say, or what was that sound? Nothing yet, but I’ll give it one more go ‘round.

Started, and finished, a book tonight. A short one, of course - the 33 1/3 on Madvillainy - but happy to get my face back in a book. 🎵📚

billy woods & Kenny Segal “Hiding Places”
The last track is what did it.
For years, the algorithm has put every new billy woods release out front, and I think I hit play on all of them. Once. Despite being a near 100% match given my tastes, none of his projects clicked until a recent replay of “Red Dust,” the closing track of Hiding Places.
For some reason, that song opened up the entire woods catalog to my ears, as if you added a drop of water into a glass of scotch. I’m all in, and have some catching up to do.

“I use sticky notes out of spite.”
Good quote from me! 🤣

Happy “I wonder if this Christmas music with screw up my algorithm” day! 🤣🎄🎵

I recently added a playlist called “Fresh” in Apple Music to have a home for those random reminders, recommendations, and thoughts that pop into my head. They can be quickly deleted after one play, or moved to a more permanent playlist. I will say it is getting a workout so far. 🎵

Dabbled with the Apple Journal app and quickly realized these are things I should be posting on my micro.blog.

My wife learned yesterday that I’m a big “elevation guy.” We went from 0’ to 4600’ in a few hours, with me constantly asking at each town what elevation we are at. I even made her search when the signs didn’t list the towns elevation. Good times. 🤣

Journaling time. (Words I should say more often.)

A jarring juxtaposition of my listening habits. 🤣

Turns out starting HBO’s “100 Foot Wave” before my flight isn’t exactly the calming content I needed.
